The art of crafting the perfect snack plate depends on the person, the mood, and the fridge contents 🫒 . The perfect plate is thoughtful and balanced. Simple, yet somehow designed.
The plate above is almost perfect. I’d prefer it have some type of hard cheese mixed in, or throw a hard boiled egg into the mix and you could call it a meal. That’s the best part about the snack plate, it grows with you.
Here is the anatomy of my perfect plate:
Bread - Of course this is a must. In my mind, it’s almost the backbone of this snack. A trick to freshen up the loaf that’s been sitting out for a couple of days: run it under water (yes water, don’t be shy), and pop it into an air fryer or oven for a couple of minutes. Good as new.
Garlic - Could also be argued this is the most important element. To be honest, the garlic grater I picked up at Printers Row fest earlier this summer is what inspired this whole plate. And to those who don’t have a garlic peeler, please get one. It is the simplest invention but makes using fresh garlic 100x easier.
Olive oil/balsamic/salt - This combination remains unmatched. No notes, no additions.
Fruit - It doesn’t have to be an apple, but any type of fruit brings a nice freshness to the plate.
Cheese/Nut - I prefer hard cheeses, the ones with little crystal bits in it. I really ought to get myself a cheese slicer.
Something salty - Olives would work here. Although personally, I still need some warming up to these pitted foods so I opted for homemade pickles. Surprisingly easy to make, and you’ll ask yourself why you would ever spend $15 on a jar of pickles again.
Chocolate* - Okay now it’s getting real. I think a piece of dark chocolate could go very well to close everything out here.
